Nerf gun actuated keyboard
As part of the UNSW Mechanical Keyboard Society, we wanted to create a keyboard akin to the antichrist. The hobby has grown a lot over the past decade, where focus has been placed on making the tactile experience as satisfying and ergonomic as possible. We wanted to “pay” “”homage”” to this goal by making a terrible keyboard that’ll require more than just your fingers, but also your aim!!!!!
The keyboard is a bona fide shooting range with hanging targets/keys, where key actuation is detected by a laptop webcam. We first define regions where each key is by drawing bounding boxes. When a Nerf dart hits a region, the movement of the plate causes a change in contrast (think T-Rex vision) and a python script types the respective key.
